How to Clean Your Eyelash Extensions: A Step-by-Step Guide

Eyelash Extension Aftercare

Your new lash set is more than a beauty statement—it’s a delicate extension of your natural self. Aftercare plays a big role in how long they last in the days and weeks ahead. Aftercare affects how healthy your natural lashes remain.

This guide is here to support you with simple steps to help you protect your investment.

Why Aftercare Matters

Lash extensions are delicate by nature. Each one is carefully and individually bonded to your isolated natural lash. How you care for them directly affects how long they last and how well they wear.

Proper aftercare doesn’t just help with retention—it also protects the health of your natural lashes, prevents irritation. Skipping key steps like daily cleansing can lead to buildup that brews bacteria and can lead to serious eye infections.

What to Expect After Your Custom Eyelash Extension Appointment?

Aftercare isn’t optional—it’s essential. To extend the life of your lashes:

  • Avoid oil-based skincare and makeup products
  • Don’t rub or pull at your lashes
  • Steer clear of steam, sweat, or water for 24 hours post-application
  • Cleanse lashes daily using a lash-safe cleanser and soft brush

A clean lash line promotes longer retention and healthier growth. This daily ritual keeps buildup at bay and supports long-term lash health.

How to Cleanse Your Lash Extensions

Cleansing your lashes daily is the most important step in your aftercare routine. Here’s how to do it properly:

  1. Use a lash-safe cleanser. You can replenish yours at your lash appointment at GlowxGiGi Skin & Beauty Studio. Choose an oil-free, gentle foaming cleanser specifically made for lash extensions. Pro Tip: If you wear eye make-up first remove with an oil free make up remover and cleansing brush. Avoid micellar water or anything with oil, as it can weigh down the lashes and break down adhesive bonds.
  2. Apply with care. Dispense a small amount of cleanser onto a clean soft cleansing brush. With your eyes closed, gently work the cleanser along the lash line from root to tip. Avoid rubbing side to side.
  3. Rinse thoroughly. Use cool to lukewarm water to gently rinse your lashes, making sure all cleanser is removed.
  4. Pat dry. Lightly blot with a lint-free towel or let your lashes air dry. Avoid rubbing or using cotton pads.
  5. Brush them out. Once dry, softly brush through your lashes with a clean spoolie to keep them fluffy and separated.

This gentle routine removes oil, dust, and dead skin that can build up that compromises lash health and retention. Clean lashes are healthy lashes—and they hold extensions longer.

Your natural lashes shed 2–5 strands daily as part of the growth cycle. Extensions will fall as your lashes do—that’s completely normal.

To maintain a full, balanced look, we recommend scheduling fills every 10–15 days. GlowXGiGi offers 1-, 2-, and 3-week fill options. If less than 40% of extensions remain, a full new set will be required
